ATS-Friendly Resume Format for 2026 — India Edition
7/15/2026
The exact resume format that passes ATSes at Infosys, TCS, Flipkart, Google India and Amazon India. Section-by-section template with examples.
The one-column, single-file rule
Fancy two-column Canva templates are the #1 reason Indian resumes get rejected. ATSes read left-to-right, top-to-bottom. Two columns confuse the parser and merge your skills into your experience bullets. Rule: one column, one page for freshers, two pages max for senior professionals.
Sections in the correct order
1. Name + contact — top of page. Include: full name, city (e.g. "Bengaluru, India"), phone (+91), professional email, LinkedIn URL, portfolio/GitHub (if relevant).
2. Summary — 2–3 lines, keyword-loaded, outcome-first.
3. Experience — reverse chronological, company + role + dates on one line.
4. Projects (freshers/switchers only) — 2–3 relevant projects.
5. Education — degree, institute, year, CGPA if above 7.5.
6. Skills — grouped by category (Languages, Frameworks, Tools, Soft Skills).
7. Certifications — with issuing body and year.
8. Awards (optional) — only if relevant to the role.
Formatting that ATSes love
- Font: Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, or Georgia — 10.5 to 11.5 pt body, 13–14 pt headings.
- Standard section headings — Experience (not "Where I've Worked"), Skills (not "Toolkit").
- Dates in
MMM YYYYformat — "Jun 2023 – Present". Consistency matters. - No tables, no text boxes, no headers/footers — many ATSes ignore or misread them.
- File name:
Firstname_Lastname_Resume.pdf. Skip version numbers. - File type: PDF (text-based, not scanned). If the JD says .docx, send .docx.
A working bullet template
[Action verb] + [what you did] + [tool/method] + [measurable outcome]
- Bad: Responsible for improving performance.
- Good: Reduced API p95 latency by 42% (from 850ms to 495ms) by adding Redis caching and refactoring 3 hot paths in Node.js.
Keyword coverage checklist
- Copy the top 3 JDs for your target role.
- Extract every tool, skill, and certification named.
- Aim to naturally include 65%+ of them in your resume.
- Match the exact phrase — write both "AWS" and "Amazon Web Services" if either appears in JDs.
