Career Switch Resume — How to Rewrite for a New Role in India
7/15/2026
Switching from IT services to product, or from finance to product management? The exact resume rewrite framework for Indian career switchers.
The switcher problem
You spent 3–6 years in role A. Now you want role B. Your resume is written for role A. Recruiters see role A. You get filtered.
The fix is not a new template. It is a narrative rewrite with three moves.
Move 1 — Rewrite the summary as an "arrival statement"
Not: "5 years in IT services looking for product management opportunities."
Instead: "Product-minded engineer with 5 years shipping enterprise SaaS at Infosys. Led 3 cross-functional launches used by 40+ enterprise clients. Now transitioning to PM roles focused on B2B growth."
The switch is framed as a natural next step, not a request.
Move 2 — Reframe bullets to speak the new role's language
Every bullet should be recast to emphasize skills relevant to the new role.
- Switching to PM: emphasize discovery, stakeholder alignment, launches, metrics.
- Switching to data science: emphasize analysis, experimentation, models built in side projects.
- Switching to design: emphasize research, prototyping, user testing.
Move 3 — Add a bridge section
Add a Projects or Transition Portfolio section with 2–3 items that demonstrate the target role's skills.
- Product switcher → PRD you wrote for a hypothetical product, with metrics.
- Data switcher → Kaggle notebook or a personal analytics project on public data.
- Design switcher → 2 case studies of an app you redesigned end-to-end.
What NOT to do
- Do not hide your current role — it looks dishonest.
- Do not remove years of experience to appear entry-level.
- Do not use "seeking opportunity to transition" language. Frame the switch as already in motion.
